About the Painting
This was a very early piece, and that is reflected in the experimental nature of the brush strokes and the abstract layers of colour. Multiple layers of paint are used to create depth rather than incorporating black line which is a defining characteristic of my current work. While my Father has largely impacted and inspired my body of work, this was the first painting done in memory of him. We see an adult blue jay, slightly obscured from sight and nestled into the comfort of a snowy branch. The blue jay is rich in cyan, pthalo and manganese blue. Terre verte paint is met with anthraquinone blue to make up the winter evergreen foliage.
